Some Long-Lasting Types Of Roofs And Conditions They Excel In

You have a lot of things to consider when you are looking for the right type of roof. If you don't consider the right things, then you may be disappointed with the roof later on. This article can guide you through the process of determining which type of roof will be the best for you and will last you the longest amount of time.

Some roofs last significantly longer than others

There are a lot of things to take into consideration, but you can start with knowing what roofs tend to last the longest in general. The roof materials that are known for having the longest lifespan include slate roofs, clay tiles, and metal roofing. However, there may be other things that come into play when it comes to deciding which one will work out the best for your house.

Roofs have different features to endure very wet climates

Metal roofs - a metal roof is good for wet climates because it won't experience some of the problems some other types experience in this weather. For example, they won't end up rotting, they don't have a big risk factor when it comes to leaks, and mold won't be an issue.

Slate roofs - Slate roofs also do great in wet climates. They do a fantastic job of keeping the rain out and are so durable that they are a great choice in areas where rain and high winds can be excessive, such as areas with hurricanes.

Roofs also differ in how well they handle excessive heat and dry climates

Metal roofs - Metal roofs also work out well in climates where extreme highs are common, as well as in very dry climates. They aren't susceptible to issues like becoming brittle or warping. They also reflect the heat away, keeping the house cooler. Metal roofs are fire-resistant too, and this is great for these weather conditions.

Clay tile roofs - Clay tile roofs work exceptionally well in hot and dry climates. While the clay material handles both heat and a dry climate well, the common S shape of the tiles also allows air to circulate through the surface of the roof and this helps keep the home a bit cooler. This type of roof also offers fire-resistant benefits.

 Conclusion

Now that you have a bit more information to go on when it comes to some of the conditions long-lasting types of roofs do exceptionally well in, your decision may be easier.

About Me

Don't Overlook Your Home Remodeling Options

When I purchased my first home, I loved it. However, I was soon eager to move on to find a new home that would have an additional bedroom that my aging parents could live in. Once I glanced at the local houses for sale, I quickly realized that there was not one that would fit our needs at a price I could afford. I decided to speak with a local contractor to see if adding an addition to my existing home was possible and if it would fit into my relatively small budget. I was greatly surprised to find out that I could afford the addition and, eventually, my parents were able to move in with me. I learned so much about home remodeling projects during this experience that I am eager to share my advice with others who could use it on my new blog!
