Tips To Prepare Your Home And Property For Major Roof Repair Or Replacement

Is a local contractor showing up at your property soon to assist with a major roof repair project or maybe even to fully replace part or all of your roof? If you have significant roofing work on the horizon, it's a good idea to make sure your house and property are fully prepared for what's ahead. Here are some tips to keep in mind.

Move Your Cars Away From the House and Ensure Your Family Stays Out of Harm's Way

If roofing shingles are about to go flying, make sure there's nothing below the roof around your house's foundation or even out near the driveway that's going to suffer damage if something comes flying down. Park your cars inside the garage if it's safe to do so or move them out to the street. Be aware of where your family pets are on the day of the appointment and make sure any small children, and the rest of your family for that matter, stay indoors or in a safe location. This is not the time for anyone to start a game of basketball in the driveway. You could consider roping off the immediate area around the house with caution tape for additional security and peace of mind.

Remove Wall Decor or Major Installations From Your Interior and Be Prepared for Some Noise and Vibrations

Roof work can be loud and you will likely feel some vibrations inside the house, especially on the upper floor. It won't quite be an earthquake, but you should still prepare by removing decor or pictures from the walls throughout your home. If you work from home, you might want to make alternate arrangements for that conference call unless you want your coworkers to think you're somehow under attack thanks to all of those loud noises.

Ensure the Roof and Gutters Are Free of Debris and Consider Removing Installations Like Satellite Dishes So the Contractors Can Get Right to Work

In order to streamline the process and ensure your roofers can get right to work and avoid distractions, make sure to clean off or clear off any debris from the roof itself and the surrounding gutters. You don't want leaves blowing around up there and smacking someone in the face while they are trying to hammer a nail. If you have significant roofing installations like a satellite dish and other equipment, consider installing or removing these items until after the repair work is done.

About Me

Don't Overlook Your Home Remodeling Options

When I purchased my first home, I loved it. However, I was soon eager to move on to find a new home that would have an additional bedroom that my aging parents could live in. Once I glanced at the local houses for sale, I quickly realized that there was not one that would fit our needs at a price I could afford. I decided to speak with a local contractor to see if adding an addition to my existing home was possible and if it would fit into my relatively small budget. I was greatly surprised to find out that I could afford the addition and, eventually, my parents were able to move in with me. I learned so much about home remodeling projects during this experience that I am eager to share my advice with others who could use it on my new blog!
